Imphal, January 13 2025:
Denouncing the arrest of village volunteers and demanding an end to such arrests, a protest demonstration was staged at Bashikhong Panthoibi Bazar, Imphal East today.
In the course of the protest demonstration organised by the Bashikhong Panthoibi Apunba Meira Paibi, the protesters shouted several slogans.
They shouted slogans like "We won't tolerate arrest of village volunteers", "We condemn excesses committed by police commandos", "Repeal AFSPA 1958", "We condemn Salungpham killing", "Crack down on narco-terrorists instead of killing innocent Meiteis" etc.
One Meira Paibi leader said that many village volunteers have been killed or arrested by security forces in the midst of the violent crisis.
Instead of acknowledging the service and sacrifice of the youth who volunteered to protect innocent people after the State failed miserably to safeguard innocent citizens and their properties from Kuki narco-terrorists, the State has been arresting the village volunteers.
This is a matter of grave concern, she said.
She warned that they will launch strong and sustained protest movements if the Government continues victimizing village volunteers.
Notably, a village volunteer died at the hands of police commandos at Salungpham, Thoubal district and many village volunteers were arrested some time back.
