Imphal, December 12 2012:
Process is underway to set up DOEACC (Department of Electronic Accreditation of Computer courses) extension centres at Churachandpur and Senapati district headquarters at the earliest, according to DOEACC Director Kh Bodhachandra Singh.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Bodhachandra informed that the State's two hill districts figured among 12 new DOEACC extension centres proposed by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology at different parts of the North East region.
For the extension centre at Churachandpur town, 3 acres of land has already been procured and construction of a temporary building underway, said the Director who also said that relevant measures are being taken up to commence computer course from February next.
Confiding that Rs 5 crore each has been earmarked for civil works of the Churachandpur and Senapati centres, he said construction works for the latter might be slightly delayed as land identification process could not be finalised/completed.
Explaining that objective of setting up the two centres is to facilitate both students and Government employees avail training in computer courses in sync with the growing dependance and utility of computers in diverse fields, he also opined that setting up of the two hill district centres will eliminate inconveniences faced by students and employees for computer acquaintances at the State's only DOEACC centre at Akampat.
The Akampat centre, established in 1991, is said to be currently extending computer courses to about 800 students out which 80 male and 30 female students are staying at the Centre's hostels.
While students from Bihar, West Bengal and Tripura used to be a part of the akampat fraternity, arrival of non-local students have ceased in the last 4-5 years, Bodhachandra mentioned and opined that existing law and order uncertainty in the State might be one of the factors for such a sharp decline.
Apart from students, DOEACC, Akampat also had staff members from AIR (Imphal), police personnel and employees of different State Government departments who underwent computer training, he added.
