Process on to start dialogue with KNO

Though the Kuki National Organisation (KNO), one of the two umbrella organisations of the Kuki militant outfits is yet to begin political dialogue with the government of India till date the process to begin the talk is underway.
The Government had assured more than once months ago to the Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) that the political dialogue with Kuki outfits would begin at the earliest.
"In the last Parliament Session, the Government of India had submitted the file on the issue to the Union Cabinet and I think the process is on," said KNO spokesman Dr Seilen Haokip while talking to Newmai News Network this evening over phone.
"The Government invited us to the negotiating table and we obliged so it has to prove its sincerity," added Dr Seilen Haokip.
The KNO has been demanding a Kuki homeland in the form of a separate State for the Kukis.
The KSDC had imposed agitation in the form of blockade in Manipur on several occasions demanding that the Government of India starts political dialogue with the Kuki outfits.
On January 3 this year, working on the modalities to begin political dialogues with the two umbrella organisations of the Kuki militant outfits�Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and the United People's Front (UPF) has started.
Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in charge of North East Sambhu Singh had briefed the representatives of the KNO and UPF in Imphal in January.
