Imphal, December 11 2019:
A National executive meeting of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has decided to launch a Nationwide protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhawan today, CPI National executive member Dr M Nara said that the National executive meeting of the party held at Hyderabad on December 7 and 8, discussed the recent development and explained that CPI and the Left Parties have always opposed the Bill.
As the Bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha, the probability of it getting passed in the Rajya Sabha is also high, he explained, adding that CPI will always oppose the Bill as it is unconstitutional and is a foundation for creating a Hindu State.
The people of Manipur have struggled hard in the demand for an Inner Line Permit System in the State, he said questioned why it has been implemented at the stage of passing the CAB.
Nara continued that the rejoicing and Thabal Chongba organised in various parts of the State celebrating the announcement to extend ILPS in Manipur, seemed illogical and over the top.
He also condemned the claim that only BJP can bring unity and development in Manipur, terming the party's (BJP) move as dirty politics.
On the other hand, Dr M Nara informed that the economic policies of the Modi Government and the resulting economic crisis was also discussed at length at the National executive meeting.
Even though the BJP makes tall claims, from demonetisation till date, the economic conditions of the country and the people have worsened, he added.
The rate of unemployment has increased rapidly, prices of goods and essential commodities have skyrocketed and the farmers are suffering while the big shots and big companies are getting their loans waived.
As such, CPI has decided to support the Nationwide bandh, Grameen Bandh, called by the trade unions on January 8 next year.
CPI has also decided to campaign from January 1 to 7 in this regard, he added.
Pointing out that incidents of crime against women have increased in the country, Dr Nara said that CPI has decided to observe All India Day demanding Women Safety, Empowerment and Rights, on January 3, which is the birth date of Savitribai Phule, also known as mother of Indian feminism.
The issue of Kashmir and the Ayodhya verdict were also discussed during the meeting, he said, adding that CPI National council meeting will be held from February 2 to 4 next year at Kolkata.
