Opening day of Sangai Festival : Manipur history to be relived

The 3000-year old chronicle of Manipur, with its recorded past from 33 AD till the present day will come alive chronologically on water screen with sound and laser light effects at Thangapat inside Kangla on the opening day of the Sangai Festival later this month.
Planning and preparation are on in ftill swing for the special multimedia show on November 21 to showcase the rich history of the State, thanks to an initiative taken by the Art and Culture Department in collaboration with the Haryana-based Tricolor India Schauspiel Pvt Ltd.
The delightful screening, which will also include narration in Manipuri and English, will be held near the Nungjreng Pukhri in the evening.
Theatre director Chingtham Banikanta will narrate in Manipur and actor Kabir Bedi in English.
Some of its main takeaways contain the coronation of Pakhangba in 33AD, the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 and the showcasing of important landmarks in the State.
Out of these remarkable scenes, the most fascinating is going to be the Anglo-Manipuri War with high-end audio visual effects.
The scene will be succeeded by views of the Kangla during the days ofBritish Raj, the takeover by Assam Rifles and further the handover to the State Government.
The water-screen event that' will run chronologically from the past is aimed to demonstrate the history of Manipur to the audience in the most imaginative and aesthetic way with chroma keying techniques.
For the show, which will be the first of its kind in the North East, the water from Thangapat will be fully pumped out and the organisers are presently making a chain of arrangements, from installation of the water screen and light to seating arrangement that will be set in circle around the lake.
