FMD outbreak in CCpur

Amidst COVID-19 lockdown, there has been an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) of cloven footed animals in different parts of Churachandpur according to reports, since a couple days back, informed a statement issued by District Information Officer, Churachandpur.
Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is a highly contagious viral disease of cloven footed animals like cattle, buffalo, pigs, sheep, goat, deer etc which is cause by aphthovirus of the family of Picorna Viridae which is a DNA virus, it said.
According to Dr Lalnghaklien Hriller, Joint Director District Veterinary Office, Churachandpur, FMD has claimed three young sucking calves in Thingkangphai area, where 75 per cent of the cattle in the area are infected.
The disease is believed to have spread throughout the district and elsewhere as it is highly contagious in nature, he added.
Meanwhile, veterinary officials said that reports of the disease were also received from adjacent villages of Thingkangphai and also villages of Ngurte, Saihenjang and Mata village amongst others.
All farmers in the district who have not vaccinated their animals against FMD are therefore advised to vaccinate/immunize before the animals get affected.
