Transport Department clarifies

The Transport Department, Government of Manipur, has issued a clarification regarding a recent viral video on social media showing an attempt to destroy the High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) and Registration Certificates (RC) copies allegedly belonging to a particular community.
In a release, the Transport Department clarified that the Department is not responsible for manufacture & affixing of HSRP of the newly purchased vehicles since September 28, 2020 as it is done through the authorized dealers only.
"Embossing and fixing of HSRP for newly purchased vehicles and distribution of RC are done through authorized dealers' end from September 28, 2020 in the State of Manipur vide the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India S.O.6052(E) dated December 6, 2018", it added.
The Transport Department also informed that the task of District Transport Officers (DTOs) of the Department is to assign vehicle registration marks after the details of the vehicle & its owner is fitted and pushed to the DTO concerned through Vahan portal.
"Subsequently, the authorized dealers manufacture and affix HSRP to the vehicles and update the associated laser code on the Vahan portal.
Only upon completion of these steps, the Transport Department issues the vehicle's smart card to the dealers from where it is collected by the vehicle owner", it concluded.
