Streetplays mark World Mental Health Day

The Lungnila Elizabeth School of Social Work in collaboration with the District Legal Service Authority, Senapati observed the World Mental Health Day with street plays at Karong Bazar and Traffic Point, Senapati.
This year's theme of World Mental Health Day is Suicide Prevention.
Students of the school held different placards that read "Tell your victorious story; Fight stress to fight mental illness; Share a smile, it reduces mental pain; Don't be ashamed to share your story, it will inspire others to speak up; Never be a slave of your own thought; Mental illness is not equal to failure; Be honest with yourself; Loneliness is a state of mind; Mental illness is not being crazy" etc.

The street plays carried messages about mental illness and how people can overcome it with the help of near and dear ones.
District Mental Health Program and the District Health Society, Senapati also observed the day at DRDA Hall, Senapati.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Ngouniba Peter, District Nodal Officer DMHP, urged all to join the movement and be instrumental in preventing suicide.
Dr H Loli Mao, CMO/Director, District Health Mission Society, Senapati talked about the importance of creating awareness on suicide prevention.
The CMO said that a person is said to be healthy only when he or she is physically and mentally fit.
As resource person, Paveine Paulina, Clinical Psychologist talked about warning signs and other factors which drive people to commit suicide.
Timely intervention and proper care are necessary to prevent suicide, Paulina said.
Officials and staff of District Hospital, District Health Society and ASHA workers also attended the event.
