Imphal, August 10 2024:
The Kabui Union, Manipur has expressed strong reservation against the claims made by some people that the Kabui community is a part of Naga during the observation of International Day of the World's Indigenous People organised by the Committee of Yelhoumee Furup at Tanthapollis Hall, Lamphel on August 9 .
In a press, Kabui Union Manipur asserted that the Kabui community, as one of the ancient and distinct communities of the State, possesses its unique culture and religion, which are not subsumed under any other nomenclature.
The Union demanded that the convenor of the event Achung Phaomei and secretary RK Bijayalaxmi should issue a public clarification in this regard by August 14, failing which legal action will be taken up against them.
The Union also refuted the claim made by Yazing Vicisy during the event that the Kabui and Rongmei are indistinguishable as a single community.
"The Kabui community was included in the Scheduled Tribes list in 1950 under the sole designation Kabui while the Rongmei tribe was recognised separately in the ST list in 2012.The Union Government has officially acknowledged Kabui and Rongmei as distinct tribes", it added.
Further, the Kabui Union demanded that Yazing Vicisy should give a public clarification regarding his statement before August 14 .
