Imphal, February 10 2020: 20 year old Sheikh Warish was remanded to judicial custody till February 24 by Judicial Magistrate Imphal West II today, in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 19 year old girl on the intervening night of January 27 and 28, at Irong Chesaba Salam Achouba Thumukom, under Mayang Imphal PS.

Sheikh Warish s/o (L) Md Hessamuddin of Lilong Dam Makha, was produced before the Court today following the completion of 10 days police remand, by the IO of the case Rattana Ngasepam (Additional SP of Investigative Unit, Crime Against Women, Imphal West) along with a prayer for judicial remand.

The IO explained that during investigation, police arrested the victim's boyfriend Md Sahid Khan (24) s/o Md Ithem of Yairipok Changamdabi on January 28 and he is presently lodged in police custody.

Sheikh Warish was arrested on January 31 after checking the call records of the victim's phone, the IO informed adding that during interrogation, Sheikh Warish admitted that he strangulated the victim after a heated argument on the night of January 27.He also revealed that he came across the victim through Facebook only a few days back before the incident and they met for the first time on the day of the incident, the IO said.

The IO narrated that as per the revelation of Sheikh Warish, he drove his uncle's Activa and met the victim at around 11 pm of January 27 .

He revealed that after they got intimate after the meeting, the victim began to get desperate to elope with him, even though he was not ready to do so as his Nikah ceremony had been held around 5 months back.

This led to a heated argument between the two, after which Sheikh Warish took the victim on his two wheeler to Irong Chesaba Salam Achouba.

Their quarrel turned violent, and the accused delivered a blow to the victim's face, pushed her down on the ground and strangulated her, the IO explained.

The accused then took off the strings on the hoodie worn by the deceased victim and tied both her hands and feet behind her back, before dragging the body and throwing it into the nearby stream/canal.

Narrating the crime, the IO submitted that more evidence need to be collected and prayed for remanding Sheikh Warish in judicial custody till February 24 for investigation of the case, which the Court granted.
