Imphal, December 09 2024:
Voicing its opposition to the engraving of "Kom" as apart of "Naga folk" on a monolith erected by the Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) on December 6, the Kom Union Manipur (KUM) has appealed CNPO to remove/delist Kom from the list.
A release issued by KUM stated that the engraving has disturbed the Kom community and thereby created a sense of deprivation in their mindset.
KUM denounced the blatant act of one Karong Thangneikhup Kom who allegedly tried to assimilate Kom community with the Naga folk without consulting the people.
"He does not represent the voice of Kom people as his leadership is not recognised by the Kom community nor is he an elected leader, his act is simply an attempt to polarise the peace living neutral Kom community who has its unique and distinct history and mindset", added KUM.
KUM thus urged CNPO "to review and scrap its decision, and delist Kom" from the list under Naga fold.
