Under the Development of Intensive Aquaculture Programme, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture has launched a survey of fish farms/ponds in the State from today.
The survey aimed at developing fish farms run by farmers' Self Help Groups is being conducted by a team led by Executive Director (Technology) of National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad, Dr EV Gopinath Sai.
After arriving at Imphal, Gopinath Sai visited fishery farms located in Mayang Imphal area together with State Fisheries Director K Saratkumar.
He also interacted with functionaries of fish farmers' SHGs and talked about development of fishery farms in detail.
During the survey tour, which covered Mayang Imphal Thana, Chabung Company, Uchiwa, Santhel, Mayang Imphal Konchak, Khelakhong, Sakmaijin and Hiranmei, the team led by Dr Gopinath Sai was accompanied by Mayang Imphal A/C MLA Dr Kh Ratankumar.
The survey work is a part of the Central Government's initiative to sanction around Rs 30 crores for development of fishery farms run by SHGs in Manipur.
The survey will cover Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts.
Executive Director (Technology) of National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad, Dr EV Gopinath Sai will also meet Fishery Minister and other top officials of the Department to help formulate some concrete policies to increase fish productivity of the State.
Gopinath Sai will leave Imphal for Hyderabad on December 12 .
