Lalit Kala Sangam celebrates 28th birthday

Lalit Kala Sangam, Imphal celebrated its 28th foundation day by organising a concert at SSBD Music College Hall, Palace Compound today.
The function was graced by Professor Jodhachandra Sanasam, National awardee and president of All Manipur Matam Eshei Association as chief guest; B Netachandra Sharma, chairman, Lalit Kala Sangam as president; Professor W Vishwanath Singh, Dean, Department of Life Sciences, Manipur University and N Bipin Singh, retired EE as guests of honour .
Speaking at the function, Jodhachandra observed that introduction of a unique raga/music composition with the fusion of Manipuri folk music and Indian Classical would promote the indigenous music form to a great extent and will occupy a significant place in the Indian Classical genre .
He pointed out that many of the famous tunes in western songs have been formed by the fusion of Indian classical tunes with their original forms .
While asking the Lalit Kala Sangam to provide a space for the music enthusiasts to learn Manipuri folk music and songs as well at the insititute, Jodhachandra termed the institute as an alternative learning place for music and songs .
Professor Vishwanath encouraged young Indian classical music learners in the State to do proper study on varied forms of music and songs besides Indian classical forms .
He also appealed to all the individuals concerned to keep the Indian Classical music thriving with a vision .
During the function, several students of the college were been feted by giving meritorious awards.
The awardees are Shreya Das of Thangal Bazar, Graceyla Ningthoujam of Pishumthong Nongthombam Leikai, Rakshanda Moirangthem of Khangabok Sorok Wangma, Mutum Bharatbushon Singh of Ghari Awang Leikai, Biswapriyo Das and Sonali Das of Sagolband Mabudhou Mantri Leikai, Leishangthem Geeten Singh of Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai, Mandira Das of Paona Bazar and W Sanatomba Singh.
