Police team rescue 46 dogs

A team of Sugnu PS and Singtom post under the overall supervision of SP Kakching intercepted a vehicle at Serou Lamkhai along Sugnu-Chakpikarong road today at around 7.10 pm and (Tata DI) and rescued 46 dogs being loaded inside the vehicle.
Apart from the 46 dogs, two dogs were found dead inside the same vehicle, as per a police source.
The team managed to rescue the dogs on receipt of information that some miscreants were transporting some dogs in a cruel manner inside iron cages from Gamphazawl Village to Churachandpur district, it said.
The vehicle (Tata DI) was being driven by N Jamsonthang (42), son of N Chinkhanpau Tangnuam from Churachandpur and he was accompanied by a helper, Zionthang Hmar (43), son of Thanglien Hmar of Moreh Ward No 8, Tengnoupal district when the team intercepted the vehicle, it said.
Upon questioning, the two occupants of the vehicle had revealed that the dogs were brought from Gamphazawl village and were to be transported to Churachandpur, the source said while adding that the occupants were apprehended and dogs were seized by the police team.
Later the persons and seized dogs were handed over to OC, Sugnu PS for further actions.
It is learnt that the OC had prayed before the Court the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Thoubal to hand over the rescued dog to the State Welfare Board Animal Shelter, Porompat citing that there is no proper place and facility inside Sugnu PS for taking care of the rescued dogs.
Subsequently, the Court has ordered to hand over the rescued dogs to the State Welfare Board Animal Shelter, Porompat, the source said.
