Chagan phungjanbo Ngee celebrated

Liangmai Makhan village on Thursday celebrated the 'Chagan phungjanbo Ngee' festival.
ML Kaisungbou, MPS, Additional SP, Senapati; Disubou Wijunamai, founder Green Tree Academy and Dr Alison Abonmai, social activist along with chiefs and chairman of nearby villages attended the event as presidium members.
Kailamdinang Abonmai, chief of Makhan village was the host of the festival.
Speaking on the occasion, Amang Abonmai highlighted the importance of Chagan Phungjanbo Ngee and stated that it is usually celebrated at the end of the year with rituals to sanctify all that are considered to be profane.
He continued that after a series of rituals for sanctification, Changan Phungjanbo Ngee is celebrated in January seeking God's blessing for the yearly activities.
"It is a ritual and festive event which involves folk dance, traditional games and singing folk songs at night, which is called 'Matuibo' in Liangmai", he asserted.
The Makhan Village Authority also stated that the celebration is important to draw and retain tangible cultural heritage and preserve the endangered cultural practices.
"Festive events in the community reaffirm the identity and keep alive the traditions", it added.
