Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee among top 2 percent scientists in the world

Professor Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director of Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal has been included among top 2% scientists in the world as per a subject-wise analysis conducted by Stanford University, Stanford, California, United States of America.
He has also been ranked among top 0.51% and 0.17% in the field of Medicinal & Biomolecular Chemistry and Pharmacology & Pharmacy respectively.
According to a release issued by IBSD, Prof Mukherjee is a renowned scientist working on several aspects of exploring bio resources with their chemical and therapeutic validation for drug discovery and development.
He is working on traditional medicine inspired drug discovery and development from Indian medicinal plants used by the traditional healers for different ailments with major emphasis on their validation, formulation and standardization, metabolomics profiling, safety and related aspects.
Prof Mukherjee is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK (FRSC), National Academy of Agriculture Science (FNAAS); National Academy of Science, India (FNASc) and West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology (FAScT) and has received several recognitions and laurels.
On September 27, 2024, in recognition of his dedicated efforts and contributions made in the field "Research and development as well as for the promotion of Bioeconomy from Bioresources", he was honored with the prestigious award "Best Phytopharmaceutical Scientist of India" at Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha by APTI-Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers' of India.
With the esteemed leadership of Prof Mukheijee, BRIC-IBSD is synergizing different research areas including Phytopharmaceutical Mission, Ethno pharmacology & Drug Development; Microbial resources, traditional foods; Animal resources, Medicinal Plant resources for their scientific validation, value addition to propel innovations for development of bio-re-sources leading to drug discovery arid development.
For the promotion of bioresources, BRIC-IBSD has established a Phytopharmaceutical Mission followed by Synergy mission programs in NER.
Under his leadership, IBSD has conducted several outreach activities at Imphal and in all the three regional Centers of IBSD located at Shillong, Sikkim and Mizoram for the societal benefits and for entrepreneurship development.
In this study reported by Stanford University, the analysis was conducted using citation from Scopus along with data assessing scientists for career-long citation impact till date and the citation impact during a single calendar year.
The selection is based on the top 100,000 scientists by c-score or a percentile rank of 2% or above in the subfield.
195,605 scientists are included in the career-long database and 200,409 scientists are included in the single recent year dataset and calculations performed using all Scopus author profiles as of August 1, 2024 .
