Imphal, October 06 2013:
As announced earlier, Committee on Protection of Land in Border Fencing, Manipur (CDBF) is all set to impose a 12-hour state-wide bandh staring from 5 am tomorrow.
Meanwhile, various organisations cutting across community line and political affiliation have extended their support to the bandh.
The bandh has been called by the Committee after the state Government of Manipur had turned down the former's ultimatum served to it.
The Committee had urged the Government to give a positive answer to the boundary issue by September 27 last.
However, it has turned a blind eye to it till date.
CDLBF has been demanding the Government for a re-survey of the Indo-Myanmar boundary so that a clear demarcation can be carried out for erection of fencing.
India shares a 349 km long border with Myanmar.
On the Manipur section of the border, the Pillar Numbers 32-48 falls under Churachandpur district, Pilllar Numbers 49-89 are in Chandel district and Pillar Numbers 90-130 in Ukhrul district.
CDLBF has maintained that a total of 43 villages inhabited by about 2,969 households numbering about 18,000 people on the Manipur side will be affected by the Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing.
Supporting the bandh call, Manipur People's Party (MPP) has appealed to all the school and college students as well as school van services for support and co-operation to show that people of Manipur would never compromise on the territorial integrity of Manipur and accept losing any part of its land.
All Manipur Intellectual Forum, Universal Mothers'Organisation, Social Upliftment Organidation, Road side Vendors Welfare Association of Khwairamband Keithel and all the women vendors in temporary market sheds (site for 4th Ima Keithel), etc have also announced their support to the bandh.
