Waithou residents protest against unbearable monetary demands

Aggrieved over the imposition of unbearable monetary demands amid the ongoing conflict in the State, a sit-in protest was staged today at Waithou.
The protest was jointly organised by Waithou Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and Waithou Educated Youth Association (WEYA Club) urging all concerned to stop imposing unbearable monetary demands on the villagers.
Speaking in connection with the protest, Waithou Apunba Meira Paibi Lup secretary Mutum Bijiya said that the people of the State are going through a tough phase owing to the ongoing conflict.
She stated that the residents of five localities of Waithou majorly derive their source of income from humble activities, small businesses, agricultural activities and so on.
But they have been hit hard by the ethnic strife in the State since May last year and are going through a difficult phase finding it hard to sustain themselves and their families, she said.
Bijiya highlighted that they have been extending the best possible support to the victims of the conflict despite their hardships ever since the outbreak of the conflict.
However, the imposition of unbearable monetary demands by different organizations have added more woes to the already suffering residents, she remarked.
In view of the plights of the residents of Waithou, she appealed to all concerned to refrain from imposing monetary demands on them.
The protestors used placards which read 'Stop imposing unbearable monetary demands', 'Stop intimidating the civilians', 'Stop demanding money amid the ongoing conflict' etc.
