Police foil bid by FESOK to seal BSEM office

Protesting against the non-appointment of the chairman of Board of Second -ary Education (BSEM), volunteers of Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) attempted to lock the office of BSEM office on Thursday, but got into an intense stand-off with the police.
On Thursday afternoon, FESOK volunteers visited the BSEM and requested to meet with the officials.
At the moment, Imphal West police personnel intercepted the volunteers at the main gate of BSEM and denied them access into the office.
However, the volunteers forced their way and called all the staff out of the office and tried to lock the office but were prevented from doing so.
The volunteers again tried to lock the office, resulting in an intense stand-off with the police but no unwanted incidents occurred.
Later, additional police personnel arrived at the scene and took control of the situation.
Speaking to media persons with regard to the protest, FESOK president K Amar jit informed that despite repeated requests to appoint the new chairman of BSEM, no action has been taken up till date.
Even BSEM's secretary in-charge had sent a written request to the authority concerned in this regard but no response has been given.
As such, the protest was carried out on Thursday, he reasoned, while cautioning of more intense protests if the new chairman is not appointed at the earliest.
"A large number of students stormed into the office building demanding the appointment of BOSEM s chairman.
The students attempted to lock the office but were prevented by police personnel, resulting in a brief physical confrontation," said a police officer.
