Review meeting on labour welfare schemes for NE States held

A review meeting on labour welfare schemes for the North Eastern States was held today at Hotel Classic Grande here .
Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment (independent charge) Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Chief Minister N Biren, Labour and Employment Minister Th Radheshyam, Assam Labour and Employment Minister Pallab Lochan Das, Nagaland Labour and Employment Parliamentary Secretary Dr Neiphrezo Keditsu and Ministry of Labour and Employment Secretary M Sathiyavathy attended the meeting as presidium members .
Speaking at the gathering, Santosh Kumar Gangwar stated that States can now nominate Chairmen of the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Boards of their respective States .
He called upon all concerned to utilise cess fund in judicious and rightful manner.
The Ministry has already written to all States in this regard .
Noting that Employees State Insurance (ESI) scheme has been already implemented in all the North Eastern States except Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, Santosh Kumar announced that ESI scheme for industrial workers of Manipur would be launched soon .
Observing that the issue of child labour is a very grave one, he called upon each and every citizen to contribute their mite in addressing the issue .
Informing that a convention would be held at Ooty on November 11, Santosh Kumar expressed keen desire for the Labour Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya to take part in the convention.
N Biren stated that the North East States were marginalised for too long.
Nonetheless, the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has acknowledged the strategic importance of the region as well as its potentials .
The country as a whole has been facing numerous challenges and the Ministry of Labour and Employment has big roles to play in overcoming these challenges .
In the line with the Skill India Mission, the State Government would soon introduce State Level Skill Development Mission.
The State Government has already initiated a plan under which 7.50 lakh youths would be provided employment by 2022, Biren stated .
The State Cabinet has adopted a resolution to introduce Mission for Economic Empowerment of Traditional Artisans/Craftsmen with a view to promote them .
A business summit would be held at Imphal on November 21 and Ambassadors of different neighbouring countries have been sent invitations, Biren informed the gathering .
Officials of the Ministry of Labour and Employment gave powerpoint presentations on child labour, plantation workers, ESIS, social security schemes, BOC workers cess fund and NCS portal.
