Imphal, September 05 2014 :
In the wake of the indefinite road blockade called by the United Naga Council (UNC), the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM), Tombing group has fervently requested the State Government to defer the recruitment procedure (walk in interview) for appointment of drivers, Food Security Programme which was scheduled to be held on September 9 onwards under the Health Department at Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat.
"The notification for the interview placed in some leading local papers is untimely when there is no vehicular movement on national highways and state highways in view of the UNC sponsored blockade which began yesterday," stated ATSUM general secretary, Vareiyo Shatsang.
He also said that conducting interviews and holding of examinations during the course of the protest amounts to deliberate segregation and a modus operandi to exploit the tribals of Manipur.
On the Manipur University admission reservation issue, ATSUM then said that as already directed by of High Court of Manipur, the admission norms at the Manipur University should follow Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 from academic year 2014-15.It also requested the authorities of Manipur University to admit students in terms of the Act as per the distribution of seats prepared by Manipur University from the current academic year with the said amended provision in the courses where admission process has not been undertaken.
The tribal students union also told that admission process in this regard may also be taken care to ensure that intending candidates are not prevented from getting themselves admitted.
It then said that notification for entrance tests/interview shall be notified at least 15 days ahead of time in print media, radio and other forms of communication to give information even to citizens from far flung areas.
ATSUM then recalled that the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 came into forces w.e.f June 19, 2012 .
The university had worked out for admission to various courses for the academic session 2014-15 and the seats have been distributed for the various categories such as SC/ST/OBC/UR students in different courses in terms of the said Amendment.
However, this was not implemented for the academic year 2014-15 but the Academic Council had taken a decision to implement this Amendment Act from academic session 2015-16 .
The tribal students' union has thus directed the Manipur University authorities to admit students in terms of the Act as per the distribution of seats prepared by the University for the academic year 2014-15 .
