Kakching, July 05 2023:
Kakching Chumnang Indoor Stadium relief camp inmates have expressed befuddlement at the Chief Minister's recent statement allegedly urging people to start farming activities with the assurance to mobilise security personnel in the foothills to provide security cover to farmers.
Speaking at a press conference held today, an inmate by the name of Maibam Bidyarani who had fled from her home in Serou stated that thousands of people whose houses have been lost to arson perpetrated by Kuki militants and attacked with gun fire are currently staying at relief camps in less than stable conditions.
Under such circumstances, the Chief Minister's remark that the situation is improving in the State along with the advise to begin agricultural activities under security cover is akin to digging one's own grave, she said.
Stating that the people of Sugnu and Serou have no faith in the Assam Rifles due to their experience in the recent violence which occurred in these regions, she asserted that Kuki militants continue to set up their bunkers in Serou and Sugnu areas.
Further, she questioned how these people who have been displaced and staying at relief camps scattered across Kakching, Wangjing, Thoubal etc are supposed to travel to and fro to start working in their fields.
She reasoned that if agricultural activities are to begin, the State Government must first withdraw SoO pact with Kuki militants, dismantle bunkers set up by Kuki militants in the foothills and rebuild the houses that have been destroyed by acts of arson.
She also appealed for adequate deployment of security personnel in the foothill areas.
