Imphal, November 04 2015:
The Children Home for boys at Takyelpat is operating without adequate staff of its own, officials at the home told The Sangai Express today.
Established on February 2, 1977, the home was inaugurated by the then Education and Social Welfare Minister Rishang Keishing.
Recently on October 3, 2015, the home was shifted to a new building ceremoniously in the presence of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Social Minister AK Mirabai and others.
The Chief Minister during his speech at the inaugural event had lauded the engineers and construction workers engaged in the project for maintaining quality and class in the construction of the home building.
Built with a budget of Rs 6 crore, the new children home is designed to accommodate 50 children.
The home has 15 boys registered under it at present.
All these 15 inmates of the home attend school at Dhanamanjuri Junior Government High School, Takyelpat, the officials informed.
There is only one cook employed at the home.
The officials at the home has engaged one from Juvenile Observation Home situated close to the home everyday to cater to the need of the children.
Moreover, the home has no Superintendent nor any staff to manage its affairs.
The officials have engaged the current Superintendent of the Observation Home to function as a Superintendent-in-charge and two other staff to manage the affairs of the home.
The State Government has indeed built a grand home for the children but it somehow has not appointed adequate staff to manage the home, the officials lamented.
Moreover, the monthly salary of the employees at the observation home are due for over two years now.
A great many written appeals have been submitted to the Department of Social Welfare citing the inconveniences faced by the employees and requesting the same to clear their monthly salaries with no response till date, the officials informed.
Appealing to the State Government to clear the due salaries of the employees at the Observation Home whose services are being utilised at the Children Home and also to appoint the required staff of the Children Home, the officials asserted that the very few workers at the home and others at the Observation Home are performing their best even with the Govt neglecting their contribution.
