Recent developments of Manipur discussed in CPI's National Council

The National Council meeting of the Communist Party of India (CPI) was held from October 2-4 at Ajoy Bhavan, New Delhi.
A press release issued by CPI stated that the recent developments in Manipur were discussed in depth in the National Council meeting.
The meeting also stressed on the disturbing problem of extortion and forced tax collection by the underground outfits even at the very nose of the Army and Police by the people of the State.
Terming that it is open looting of the people at broad daylight where every vehicle moving through the two lifelines viz NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur Road) and NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) has to pay taxes, the meeting expressed discontent that there have been no positive response so far though several memoranda were submitted to the Union Government for deployment of Highway Protection Forces.
The National Council further strongly condemned the killing of social activist and political leader, Athuan Abonmai on September 22 at Tamenglong in the midst of the State function attended by the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues after kidnapped in front of the public and security personnel.
The Council demanded for immediate action to arrest the culprits.
