Mega tree plantation drive held at RIMS

As part of the "Ek Ped Maa ke Naam" campaign of the Government of India, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal organised a mega tree plantation drive at RIMS Dental College campus today.
The drive was organised in collaboration with the Forest Department, Manipur and Rotary Club of Imphal, said a release issued by RIMS.
The "Ek Ped Maa ke Naam" campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024 .
Under this campaign, it is proposed to plant 80 crore trees across the country by September 2024 and 140 crore trees by March 2025.Speaking on the occasion, Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal said that the mega tree plantation drive will be carried for a month at different places of RIMS campus.
"We all need to look at how the climate is changing and its impact.
Recently we even witnessed devastating floods and landslides in our State", he added.
He asserted that the objective of the mega tree plantation drive is to maintain environmental balance by making the State greener through extensive tree planting.
The Director urged all to come forward and take part in the mega tree plantation drive.
Further, Dr G Sunil Kumar advised the students to take active roles in various activities to save the planet.
S Sarat Singh, CAO/FA, RIMS, Imphal, HODs, Principal, Dental College, RIMS, Imphal, faculty members, representatives of Forest Department, staff and students of RIMS, Imphal also participated in the event.
