Jiribam, September 03 2017:
The All Jiribam Linguistic Minority People's Organisation ( AJLMPO) has vehemently condemned the statement of the Coordinating Committee of Civil Society Manipur, which was published in a local daily on September 2, regarding the identity of Jiribam MLA .
A press release issued by Sushil Namasudra, vice president of AJLMPO counteracted the statement of Coordinating committee of civil Society Manipur, and pointed out that it is historical fact that the Bengalis settled in Jiribam when Manipur was under the kingship administration and it was prior to independence and before 1949 .
"When Manipur got independence, and the history is very clear, Bengalis among the other communities took major role in the human settlement of Jiribam", it added .
Further, the AJLMPO added that the historical facts of Jiribam have been published in different local dailies several times for public information but it can be observed that different organisations ,civil societies and even some intellectuals have not read the facts and truth, but they rather pour fuel to fire and try to create disunity and communal tensions among various communities in Jiribam , who are living in harmony since time immemorial.
It stated that it is very unfortunate the Coordinating Committee of Civil Society Manipur, knowing the fact and without thinking about the forthcoming consequences of the people of Jiribam, broadly declared Ashab Uddin, the recently elected MLA of Jiribam, as "Bangladeshi Macha" .
The Bengalis contested general elections during 1948, 1969, 1979, 1990, 2002 but no such allegations were made against Bengali's from any angle, it added .
It stated that the people of Jiribam constitutionally mandated and elected him as the MLA of Jiribam .
In addition the AJLMPO also decided to convene a joint meeting with the mainstream civil society organisations, public leaders from various communities residing in Jiribam on the September 6 at PWD Guest house and urged all thsoe consernced to be present.
