Imphal, August 03 2022:
Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) has called for clarification from the State Government regarding the alleged cultivation of 'marijuana' at the hill slope of Gotankot village in Kangpokpi village.
CADA in a press release urged for the clarification referring to a video posted in the Facebook page of the State based web portal 'The Frontier Manipur' by its Executive Editor, Paojel Chaoba on August 3 showing the extensive cultivation of marijuana at one of the hill slope at Gotankot village in Island Block of Kangpokpi district.
CADA while reacting to the video, maintained that cultivation of marijuana is prohibited in the State under Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act 1985 and expressed suspicion over the Government's ignorance on the matter whether the Government has approved the cultivation of marijuana through a Delhi based company at Gotankot.
CADA also pointed out that huge quantities of drugs which are worth crores of rupees are seized in the State on a regular basis but no strict measures have been taken up to curb the issue even though the State has launched 'War on Drugs' campaign.
