Paresh Baruah orders pack up time to Oil Company

Guwahati, June 03 2011: After remaining in silence for a long time, the the Paresh Barua faction of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has begun making its presence felt in Assam.

On Friday, the ULFA (Paresh Barua) has asked a Mumbai based oil exploration company to halt its operations and leave Assam within 45 days.

Elusive Paresh Barua is the commander-in-chief of the ULFA, and the only top leader yet to be caught, killed or on bail to pursue peace.

In an emailed statement, ULFA spokesperson Arunuday Dohotia accused Shiv-Vani Oil and Gas Exploration Private Limited of exploiting natural resources against the "wishes of the people of Assam".

He added 'colonial New Delhi' facilitated the private firm to destroy Assam's natural resources and its economy.

"The company must leave our state.

If it continues oil exploration with protection from Indian security forces, they will face military action from us.

We won't allow any one to work against Assam's interest," said Dohotia, adding Shiv-Vani has been ruthless in its India-backed plan to turn Assam into a desert-like region.

Apart from PSUs, private players have been awarded blocks under the New Exploration Licensing Policy to hunt for oil and gas in petroleum-rich eastern Assam.

Green groups have for long been accusing both the PSUs and private explorers of not respecting the eco-sensitiveness of the region.

Back in 1992, ULFA had served quit notice to a French Govt firm engaged by Oil India Limited in Duliajan area.
