Thoubal, January 03 2019:
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting the State on January 4, many civil society organisations today submitted a memorandum, seeking justice for Pravish Chanam, addressed to the PM via Deputy Commissioner Thoubal district.
Many youth organisations including Social Youth Progressive Organisation (SYPO), Youth Action Committee for Protection of Indigenous People (YACPIP), Khangabok Development and Students' Union (KDASU), Young People for Social Reform (YPSR) and Youth's Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) carried out a rally demanding CBI probe and justice for Pravish Chanam.
The large crowd later stormed the Thoubal DC complex at around 2 pm.
Some representatives of the organisations were allowed to enter and submit the memorandum.
In the memorandum, the organisations reminded the Prime Minister of the mysterious death of Pravish Chanam in Greater Noida on September 9, 2017.The organisations in their memorandum accused the Prime Minister of not paying heed to the issue since the last one year and three months.
Stating that the Prime Minister had visited the State in March 2018 and failed to address the issue, the organisations reiterated the long standing demand of the people for a CBI probe in the case that has been ignored for long.
The organisations also appealed the Prime Minister to declare in public the handing over of Pravish Chanam case to CBI during his visit.
Pravish Chanam (22) had gone missing after attending a concert in Noida on the night of September 8, 2017 and his body was later found in Nithari village the next day.
Chanam had, however, been admitted to the district hospital after he had passed out at the concert venue.
But CCTV footage showed that he slipped out of the hospital at 6 am the next morning and police later informed that they have cremated his body as it could not be identified even after keeping it in the mortuary for three days.
