House okays 8 Demands for Grants

The Manipur Legislative Assembly today passed eight Demands for Grants of total amount Rs 34,76,22,05,000 .
The Demands for Grants passed today included State Legislature (Rs 298,55,36,000), Council of Ministers (Rs 16,28,00,000), Secretariat (Rs 163,43,96,000), MAHUD (Rs 961,39,27,000), Textiles, Commerce & Industries (Rs 182,49,85,000), Public Health Engineering (Rs 1612,45,73,000), Administration of Justice (Rs 190,40,52,000) and Election (Rs 51,19,36,000) .
In the course of discussing the Demands for Grants pertaining to Election, Chief Minister N Biren stated that the local body elections could have been held, if not for the protracted crisis.
He said that the State Cabinet adopted a decision on June 13 to hold Municipal Council, ADC and Panchayat elections by September.
On seeking the opinion of TA & Hills Department regarding the ADC election, the department informed that there is a need for delimitation of certain constituencies, Biren said.
The Chief Minister, nonetheless, assured that he would see the local body elections are held as soon as possible.
While discussing the Demands for Grants pertaining to MAHUD, Y Khemchand said that the Government has been working to apply the building bye-law currently enforced in Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) areas to greater Imphal areas too.
He said that the Government has been working to implement the building bye-laws in greater Imphal areas through the Town Planning Department.
He also stressed the importance of paying property tax in the IMC area.
