Imphal, July 02 2015 :
Archbishop of Imphal, Rev Dominic Lumon and Bishop of Kohima, Rev James Thoppil have appealed to Mao Council and SAPO to settle the present standoff through dialogues.
In a joint statement, they said that no problem is solved through confrontation but only through 'care-frontation' .
They said, "As the heads of the Catholic Churches of Manipur and Nagaland, we are pained to hear about the ongoing conflict between Angami and Mao communities, who are Tenyimi brothers by tradition, over land which is the common heritage of man" .
It is painful to see that the problem has escalated into a conflict of enormous intensity in the past few weeks causing untold suffering to people particularly to the student community, they said.
Quoting St Paul's first letter in the Corinthians, they said, "All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful" (6:12) .
They appealed both the sides to end the conflict in a peaceful manner based on Christian principles.
