Skill upgradation training on handloom weaving launched

Imphal, December 01 2023: A skill upgradation training on handloom weaving under Samarth Scheme organised by Weavers' Service Centre (WSC), Imphal was launched on Friday at the training centre of M/S Lingjenthoibi Self Help Group, Khongman Zone-II, Imphal East.

The 45-days long training programme sponsored by the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India was inaugurated by Khumanthem Diana Devi, Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East, specially for the weaver-inmates of the Ideal College Relief Camp, Akampat, Imphal East district.

According to a release issued by Thongju Kendra Relief Committee (TKRC), the inaugural function was attended by WSC Imphal, Deputy Director, Priyadarshi Daripa; District Handlooms & Textiles, Imphal East Project Manager (Handlooms), Y Ashalata Devi; TKRC president Sougrakpam Ibobi Singh and Shintha Handlooms & Handicrafts' president Sougrakpam Bhubol as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Kh Diana appreciated WSC Imphal for bringing in such an important skill upgradation training programme for the weaver-inmates of the relief camp and added that it would certainly be helpful to the trainees in terms of skill development as well as to be certified weavers under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

She also asked the trainees to attend the training wholeheartedly to successfully go through the final assessment tests to be conducted at the end of the programme.

"Daily bio-metric attendance will be conducted during the training period and trainees have to attend not less than 80% and a trainee will be given stipend of Rs 300 per day.

Those who do not attend the minimum required days will not be allowed to get stipends, to appear in the assessment tests and also certificates will not be issued", said Priyadarshi Daripa.

Sougrakpam Bhubol expressed happiness at holding SAMARTH training for the first time in the State for weaver-inmates of a relief camp by knowing the grievances being faced by the displaced families during the present unrest.

"The trainees who attend 100% of the 45 days will get a total of Rs 13,500 at the end of the training, they will be allowed to appear in the final tests and will be given certificates recognised by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and the certificates will be useful in making their weaving careers and job placements", he added.
