64th Wildlife Week Celebration observed at various districts of the State

Senapati/Chandel/Bpr/Kpi, October 01 2019: The 64th Wildlife Week Celebration, 2019, was observed at various districts across the State today.

Chief Conservator of Forest, Wild Life, W Yaiskul, flagged off a cycle rally at Keibul Lamjao today as a part of the 64 Wild Life Week under the theme 'The future of wildlife is in our hands' , which was organised under the aegis of Wild Life Wing Forest Department and Environment Social Reformation and Sangai Protection Forum.

Forest Department Chief Conservator of Forest Wildlife W Yaiskul, Deputy Conservator of Forest/Park and Sanctuary Sanajaoba Khuraijam, DSP/CDO Bishnupur T Sanajaoba, secretary general Protection Forum S BK Singh and forum president T Bushi attended the event as the presidium members.

The cycle rally which was flagged off from Khordak Dam Makhong, passed Kumbi Bazaar and reached Moirangkhunou before concluding at Keibul Lamjao National Park.

Speaking to media persons, W Yaiskul said that the wildlife week, which will be observed for 7 days, aims to protect the wildlife and also aims to spread the message that only the humans can save these wildlife.

He continued that only the Forest Department cannot save the Sangai as it also requires the work of the people as a whole.

Senapati Forest Division, Senapati organized the 64th Wildlife Week Celebration, 2019 at Mt Gibeon Hr Sec School, Tadubi, Senapati district under the theme, 'The Future of Wildlife is in our hands'.

To mark the occasion, the forest division organized three divisional level competitions as Level I- "On-spot Painting Competition" for classes V-VIII, level II - "Quiz competition" for Classes IX & X and level III- "Debate competition" on the topic, "Wildlife hunting for sports" for classes XI & XII respectively.

14 schools came from different parts of the district to participate in the competitions.

A short rally was also organized in the beginning of the program where nearly 450 students from across the district pledged for conservation of wildlife with different slogans from Tadubi Town Hall to BOC, Tadubi.

D John Sha, Divisional Forest Officer, Senapati Forest Division graced the occasion as the chief guest and Ch Loli, Principal of Mt Gibeon Hr Sec School as the guest of honour.

RFO/Karong, RFO/Liyai, BO/Maram, Tadubi and Mao were also present at the function.

The first three winners for painting competition were declared as Modoviene Florence Troimai from Savio High School, Tungjoy, Phamei Kekon Siro from Mt Everest Hr Sec School and Lunminthang Mate from De Paul School, Puni Pfosemai Village as the first, second and third position holders respectively.

The students from Savio High School, Tungjoy, Bethany Hr Sec School, Senapati and Baptist English School, Shajouba were declared as the 1st , 2nd and 3rd place winners for quiz competition.

Winner in the debate competition from the movers side went in favour of H Pungaolou Patrick of St Joseph Hr Sec School, Tadubi while Veidanai Pauhaina of Mt Everest Hr Sec School was placed the winner for "Against the motion".

Apart from the prize winners, two consolation prizes were also given for each category to boost the morale of the students and also to encourage the students for participating in such events even in future.

It was also announced that the first place winners in the quiz competition and debate competition to represent Senapati Forest Division at the State Level Quiz and Debate competitions slated for October 5 in Imphal.

Mention may be made that Odikanta Koijam, Area Head, HDFC Bank, Imphal donated the first prize for painting competition of the day.

Divisional Forest Office, Chandel organized a mass rally today, in connection with the observance of 64th Wildlife Week Celebration 2019.The rally was flagged off from DFO Office Chandel by DFO Tengnoupal E Home Singh.

In the mass rally held in the morning, which started from DFO Office Chandel to Indoor Stadium, various students held placards which read "Stand To Save Wildlife March to Celebrate Their Rights", "Wildlife: Save It to Cherish or Leave it to Perish", "Conserve Wildlife for a Better and Healthier World", "Soot us with Cameras, Not Guns.

We Love to Pose too, Not Bleed to Death" and "God Gave us Dominion Over All Creation as Stewards, Not as Destroyers" etc.

The function was attended by DFO of Tengnoupal E Home, Range Officer Moreh N Santosh and Chief of Sinadam Village Bd Konthu Anal as presidium members.

During the function, prizes were distributed to the winners of each category of spot painting, quiz, slogan writing and debate competitions which were held on September 25 at Maha Union Govt Hr Sec School.

In the painting competition held on the theme "Wildlife in Manipur" for Class VI to VIII students, Phowlhman Sinruwng of Koinonia Training School secured the 1st position, Zaenivar Tongsin Anal of Koinonia Training School secured 2nd position while Nameirakpam Ashmita Devi of St Paul's High School finished at 3rd position.

In the quiz competition held for Class IX and X students, the pair of Khininghla Wangshol and RT Welldam Anal of St Peter's Hr Sec School Chandel stood 1st, the team of L Rosemary and HB Hmunthari of Anallon Christian Institute Chandel secured the 2nd place while team of Bungsingam Shilshi and T Modikai of Koinonia Training School & Ringam Khular and S Khosirlal Aimol of St Paul's High School finished at 3rd position.

In the debating competition held on the topic "Development is Possible with Conservation" for Class XI and XII students, SR Oasis of Anallon Christian Institute Chandel was declared the best supporter while Ts Canahring of the same school was adjudged the best opposer.

Both are nominated for the State Level Debate to be conducted at Forest Head Office Sanjenthong on October 5.In the slogan writing competition held on the theme "Any, on Wildlife Conservation" for Class XI to XIII students, Alonika Langhu of Anallon Christian Institute Chandel secured the 1st position, Leevis Tongsin of Anallon Christian Institute Chandel came at 2nd position while Samjeyile Newme of Maha Union Govt Hr Sec School finished at 3rd position.

Range Officer of Chandel Forest Division Ch Deven, Range Officer of Chakpikarong S Socheekumar and RO Tengnoupal A Ranbir also attended the observation.

The 64th Wildlife Week celebration was also kicked off today at Kangpokpi District Headquarters by Kangpokpi Forest Division under the leadership Divisional Forest Officer, Esther Laltankim Serto at Parizeau Maranatha Academy (PMA), Kangpokpi.

Thangzangul Touthang, Founder of PMA Kangpokpi, Ch Lalit and Esther Laltankim Serto, DFO Kangpokpi attended the event as the presidium members.

Various competition were also conducted during the inaugural ceremony participated by around 200 students from various educational institutions within the districts.

Flagged off by Esther Laltankim Serto, a foot rally was also organized before the formal celebration program at the school campus of PMA Kangpokpi where student community and DFO Kangpokpi staffs apart from the local people participated in the rally.

On-Spot Painting Competition for students of Class V to VIII, Quiz Competition for students of Class IX and X, Debate Competition for students of Class XI and XII and Slogan Writing Competition for students of Class XI and XII were also conducted as part of the celebration.

Apart from dignitaries, all Range Officer of Kangpokpi District including RO Motbung, T.Waichong, Saikul and Kangpokpi also participated in the celebration.
