Imphal, June 01 2013 :
Like all other media houses in Imphal, the Press Meet called by Universal Mothers' Association on May 24, 2013 at Manipur Press Club in connection with the rape case of a student of TG Higher Secondary School was duly covered and published by Hueiyen Lanpao on the following day of its edition, on May 25 .
It was reported under the headline "Famlaankhibata Nattana Kihanba Leptre" wherein it was quoted the victim's mother, Nirmala raising allegations against the rapists for persuading the victim's family to settle the case with money and vehicle, besides intimidating them by some persons claiming to be cadres of RPF/PLA.
The newspaper clipping of the report was also sent to the RPF via email as per their request.
On May 30, the RPF called up Hueiyen Lanpao to send one representative to find out the truth regarding the allegations made by victim's mother.
The outfit also mentioned that a representative of Imphal Free Press and the victim's mother would be coming to have clarification with the leaders of the outfit.
However, Hueiyen Lanpao could not take part in the meeting due to some unavoidable circumstances.
Inconvenience for the same is regretted.
Local newspapers namely Poknapham, The People's Chronicle, Sangai Express (Manipuri Edition), Naharolgi Thoudang and Ireibak published a press statement of RPF which alleged Hueiyen Lanpao of violating journalistic ethics and being rigid in rectifying mistakes.
There is no question of publishing fallacious news item by Hueiyen Lanpao regarding the case.
The report was based solely on the statement given by the victim's mother Nirmala and one Sorojini given during the Press Meet.
Proper evidences and recordings of the Press Meet are with Hueiyen Lanpao.
The name of RPF was mentioned in the report as per the condition earlier placed by the UG outfits against concealing names of any outfit to avoid confusion while reporting in newspapers.
Reporters of Poknapham, Sangai Express, Naharolgi Thoudang, Ireibak and ISTV also covered the same Press Meet, which was also attended by prominent members of social organizations.
If at all the victim's mother, Nirmala has retracted her statement made at the Press Club, then Hueiyen Lanpao sincerely hopes that the reading public would decide who is on the wrong side.
If necessary, Hueiyen Lanpao will post the audio recordings of the Press Meet on its website as well as on social media.
Editor, Hueiyen Lanpao.
