Imphal, November 30 2016:
Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has condemned the alleged excesses of security forces in Noney where one Thangongliu Kamei suffered a bullet injury.
In a statement, ZYF said that security forces used excessive force upon the innocent civilians when a group of UNC's economic blockade supporters were demanding the State Government to release UNC president Gaidon Kamei and UNC info and publicity secretary SK Stephen.
The State Government, instead of resolving the issue, deployed maximum number of security forces on the National Highways dominated by the Nagas, the statement said.
The incident has testified that the State Government's intention is to suppress the Naga people by utilizing military might.
The State Government has not resolved the issue till date despite the fact that ZYF and the State Government held a joint meeting wherein the latter agreed to convene another joint meeting after the enquiry report is submitted.
The report has also been submitted but the State Government has failed to convene a meeting till date.
The present situation is the creation of the State Government and therefore the mechanism to resolve the ongoing issue lies in the hand of the State Government, the statement said.
Economic blockade imposed by UNC is considered as unconstitutional while counter economic blockade imposed by some groups based in valley is acceptable.
In the course of agitation in the valley, not a single live bullet was used, ZYF said.
The State Government must honour the four MoUs signed between the Government of Manipur and Naga and also the assurance given by the Central Government.
Gaidon Kamei and SK Stephen should be conditionally released at the earliest, it added.
