Imphal, October 31 2014 : A marathon race, 'Run for Unity' was organised today at National Institute of Technology, Manipur on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel which is commemorated as Rastriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) .

Staff and students of NIT Manipur participated in the race.

Registrar of the institute, RK Lalit Singh flagged off the race from the institute's premises at Takyelpat.

The runners covered Naoremthong via Sagolband road-RIMS Road and ended at NIT permanent campus at Langol.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel, being commemorated as 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas', Maj Gen Rajeev Chopra, IG AR (South) flagged off the 'Run for Unity' at Mantripukhri with a call for unity across different religions, castes and communities.

This drive was ardently followed in letter and spirit by all officers and troops along with their families in IGAR (South).

Thereafter, a pledge was taken by all for unity of the Nation under the stewardship of Maj Gen Rajeev Chopra, IG AR (South).

The drive received an overwhelming response from all the sectors and the units under IGAR(S), informed a statement issued by PRO of IGAR (S) .
