Imphal, August 31 2014: Members of Imphal East District Panchayat Parishad have strongly condemned shooting of Sawombung Gram Panchayat Pradhan Sandham Ibomcha (48) and firing at the residence of Ucheckon Nongpok Gram Panchayat Pradhan Anita Naoroibam (41) .

Speaking to media persons today at Panchayat Bhavan, Porompat today, Imphal East District Panchayat Parishad vice-president Th Gomti said that shooting and causing grievous injuries to Ibomcha without any prior warning ought to be condemned by all right thinking citizens.

Quoting family members, Gomti said that Ibomcha did not have any personal enmity with anybody nor was there any case of monetary demand from any UG group.

Ibomcha was shot on the head at his residential gate at Yourabung Khunou and he was abandoned there thinking that he was dead.

Fortunately, Ibomcha survived and he is currently undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity.

In the meantime, some identified persons opened three rounds of shots at the residence of Pradhan Anita Naoroibam at Ucheckon Khunou at around 10.30 pm yesterday.

Anita too has no personal enmity nor any case of monetary demand.

Taking strong exception to frequent attacks and intimidations on representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Gomti sought immediate attention of the State Government.

Gomti said that they would stage a protest demonstration at Panchayat Bhavan, Porompat tomorrow against frequent attacks on members of Panchayati Raj Institutions.
