World Day Against Trafficking in Persons observed

Ukhrul, July 31 2024:
The observance of 'World Day Against Trafficking in Persons' was held at the' Jubilee Hall UBC, Kamphasom in Ukhrul district.
The observance was organised by Project Mukti in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ukhrul and ECPAT Luxembourg.
Deputy Commissioner Ukhrul Kengoo Zuringla graced as the chief guest while Tangkhul Shanao (TSL) president Thingreiphi Lungharwoshi attended as the special guest of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC Ukhrul highlighted the increasing crime rate in the district especially alarming cases of child sexual abuse.
The DC stressed on the need of conducting regular sensitization programmes to prevent such anti-social activities in the society.
Parents and teachers need to be vigilant to prevent children from indulging into immoral activities, she remarked.
Meanwhile CJM Kimneingah Kipgen who is also the Secretary of DLSA Ukhrul in her keynote address highlighted the importance of observing World Day Against Trafficking in Persons She informed about the services provided by the District Legal services Authority to the needy individuals such as free legal aid to victims including child, women and tribal communities.
She called for collective efforts to avail such legal services.
Speaking at the event, TSL president Thingreiphi Lungharwoshi spoke in length about the roles Tangkhul Shanao Long on child sexual abuse.
Wungreiso Shangh, Project Officer for Project Mukti administered the pledge to spread the message of child safety and evils of human trafficking.
As a part of the programme, competitions on drawing and painting, skit, mime and quartet were also conducted for the students.
Over 700 students from 13 schools including officials from the Education Department, Police, Child Welfare Committee, NGOs, Church leaders and Tangkhul CSO leaders attended today's programme.
