Imphal, July 31 2018:
The Supreme Court has given the green signal to appoint a regular Director of RIMS but the appointment would be provisional.
Notably, there has not been a regular Director at RIMS for the past four years after RIMS Director Dr S Sekharjit was relieved of his duty in August 2014.The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare conducted a personal interaction programme on January 13 last year for appointment of a regular Director for RIMS.
Contending that the personal interaction was a DPC for appointment of RIMS Director and it was based on faulty rules and regulations, some doctors of RIMS filed a petition at the High Court of Manipur.
Acting on the petition, the High Court issued a directive to cancel the DPC and hold a new DPC after publishing fresh advertisement.
Subsequently, some doctors who took part in the personal interaction filed a special leave petition at the Supreme Court seeking due permission for declaration of the personal interaction's result.
The apex Court passed a ruling on May 7 this year which authorised the authority concerned to go ahead with the recruitment process of RIMS Director based on the recruitment rules currently in force.
The Supreme Court heard the case again on July 13 and directed the authority concerned to declare results of the selection process and give provisional appointment to a regular Director.
The apex Court also made it clear that appointment of a regular Director of RIMS for full term would depend on the result of the special leave petition.
The next round of hearing of the special leave petition has been fixed in October, informed a source.
