Imphal, June 30 2011:
To give uninterrupted power supply to all the nine DC offices of the state, the North East Council has approved installation of solar power plants in all the offices.
The approval for the installation of these solar power plants was given at the 2nd meeting of the working group of NE Working Sector held in Shillong today.
Officials of the Manipur Renewal Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) who participated in the meeting urged the NEC to give their final decision on the said project to which the NEC agreed.
The NEC also gave a green signal to the procurement of 3000 solar water heaters for which MANIREDA had proposed.
Apart from this, two projects and another four schemes will also be put forward to the NEC at the 3rd NE Working Group Meeting to be held later in July this year, official sources said.
Reliable sources from MANIREDA revealed that out of Rs.84 crores sanctioned for solar power for the state under the 12th five year plan Rs.5.5 crores will be released for the current year.
In the said meeting Planning Advisor and Power Advisor of NEC, officials of Manipur power department and MANIREDA were present.
Apart from the officials from Manipur no other officials from other parts of the North East were present.
According to highly placed sources, money which is released by NEC through the state finance department takes a long time to reach the concerned department which delays the time to sumbit the utilization certificate to NEC.
This has caused hazards in the implementing process.
