The Consumers' Club, Manipur (CCM) has urged all consumers to contact the following numbers 7629933367 (Head Office); 8974455790 (Thoubal branch); 9856032724/ 7005097739 (Bishnupur branch) and 6909582939 (Churachandpur) if they (the consumers) come across any shopkeepers/traders selling goods at an inflated rate.
A press release signed by CCM president T Phulchand Sharma asserted that certain traders selling their wares at an increased rate by taking undue advantage of the situation in the State is akin to violating consumers rights.
Stating that no sincere effort is being made to protect the rights of consumers at these difficult times, he expressed a desire for the Government to enforce the relevant Acts meant for protecting consumers rights effectively.
He also urged the Government to formulate a policy that will serve the interest of the consumers for a longer period.
The method used by the Government in fixing the prices of certain items under the Essential Commodities Act recently is wrong except for Atta and Maida, Phulchand continued maintaining that none of the items whose prices were fixed by the Government come in 100 kg bag.
Apart from prices of certain items becoming costlier in the rate fixed by the Government, the rates of CAP & PD and Agriculture Market Intelligence Report are also nonidentical, he said and appealed to all concerned to fix the prices of items after thorough consultation by forming a Price Fixation Committee.
Further stating that prices of several items fixed by the Government are not satisfactory, he appealed to all concerned to revise the prices.
Phulchand also urged all shopkeepers/traders to display the stock position of their wares in noticeable places and refrain from selling goods at a higher rate.
