Woman delivers baby under torchlight due to power outage

Jiribam, January 31 2019:
A pregnant woman gave birth to a baby at the Jiribam 50-bedded Government hospital in Jiribam district under torchlight due to power outage on January 29.On Tuesday, 20-year-old Armina Begum a resident of Jaironpokpi, Jiribam was rushed to Jiribam 50-bedded hospital for delivery.
She delivered her baby at 6.35 pm under torchlight due to power cut.
After getting the report, the media team of Jiribam district visited to the hospital to unearth sequence of events.
It has been reported that the hospital has a power generator as well as an inverter which are not in working condition and there was power cut on January 29 in the evening due to blowing of stormy wind.
In the meantime, the woman was in the labour room when the power outage occurred which has left the nursing staff and doctors to perform the delivery using torch and lamp as no alternative means of light is available in the hospital.
It may be mentioned that the hospital was upgraded to 50-bedded sub-district hospital and shifted to new building at Ningsingkhul, Jiribam on October 31, 2016, but health service facilities have not improved much.
Thereafter, the health minister L Jayanta Kumar also visited the hospital and provided the facilities of free diagnostic centre, ultrasound machine, baby wanner and X-ray machine.
