LH College hosts seminar on 'science and society'

A one-day national seminar on the theme: 'Impact of Science on Society' was organised by the Physics Department of Lilong Haoreibi (LH) College, Thoubal district in consultation with the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Mumbai on Saturday at the college multipurpose hall.
The inaugural session of the seminar organised as a part of yearlong celebration of 75 years of India's Independence was attended by DM University controller of examinations Dr A Nabachandra Singh as chief guest, LH College head of Physics Department K Yaima Singh as president and principal Dr Md Raheijuddin Sheikh as guest of honour.
AERB, Mumbai scientific officer Dr Th Dewan Singh addressed issues related to radiations with special focus on importance of radiations for societal development during his presentation in the plenary sessions on the theme: Radiations, Regulations and Safety Measures.
Delivering keynote speech on the seminar's theme 'Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary Research under NEP 2020", Dr Raheijuddin emphasised on development of large multidisciplinary higher educational institutions to meet the requirement of research and development activities in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach as envisaged in the recommendations of the National Education Policy NEP 2020 .
Meanwhile, S Kula Women's College head of the Physics Department, Dr A Joy Singh highlighted the interdependence of scientific research and societal development of a nation and Dr B Arunkumar of Department of Radiation Oncology, Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) deliberated on the role of radiations in medical sciences through thorough presentation on recent advances in the field of radiation therapy in treatment of cancer and other related diseases.
Dr S Nabadwip of the Department of Physics at Oriental College highlighted the Role of Thermoluminescence and Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dating Methods in the studies of different artefacts, archaeological sites, historical monuments and authentication of many historical accounts.
Altogether, 120 delegates attended the seminar and 32 abstracts compiled in the form of book which was published by the dignitaries.
In the technical sessions, 32 original research papers were presented by teachers from different colleges and universities.
