Students demand unconditional release of RSF leaders

Student leaders of Reformist Students' Front (RSF) who were arrested by Thoubal police were produced at CJM Thoubal district Court today while many students staged protests demonstration demanding release of their leaders unconditionally.
The student leaders who were arrested by the police include RSF HQ vice-president Dayaluxmi Wangjam, finance secretary Giranjit, and publicity secretary Henry Moirangthem.
They were arrested by Thoubal police from their respective houses yesterday in the wee hours.
Thoubal police also halted the student protestors, coming from various schools of Thoubal area, who took out a massive rally raising slogans for unconditional release of their RSF leaders.
While demanding immediate release of RSF leaders president RSF HQ Thoiba Khumancha has termed the arrest of Reformist Students' Front leaders as a conspiracy against RSF by some unscrupulous element.
He also conveyed that RSF in the interest of the public has decided to cancel the 48 hours general strike which was slated to start from the midnight of August 3 due to the observance of Integrity day on August 4 .
While endorsing the 24 hr general strike called by UCM, AMUCO and CCSK starting midnight of July 31, he maintained that RSF will continue to observe the general strike till midnight of August 2 .
RSF further cautioned that intense agitation will be launched if the student leaders are not released at the earliest.
