Imphal, March 30 2019:
BJP Manipur Pradesh leader and former Minister Dr Nimaichand Luwang has asserted that both the Congress candidates contesting the Lok Sabha election in Manipur are criminals.
Speaking to media persons today, Dr Nimaichand rejected Congress party's propaganda that BJP is a communal party.
He asked if there is any communal element in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas programme.
Congress candidate in Inner Manipur PC O Nabakishore has been campaigning for the election by telling that he was sacked from the post of Chief Secretary with the sole motive of winning sympathy of Meitei voters.
Congress party came across the two candidates in their search for wealthy candidates, he said.
Saying that the two candidates were not Congress members till very recently, Dr Nimaichand said that the two would have never got Congress tickets if they were not millionaires.
There are many Congress men who are more qualified to be Parliamentarians.
There is no question of Chief Minister N Biren looking down upon Meitei people.
On the contrary, he was very happy when a Meitei officer became the State's Chief Secretary.
But the Meitei officer could not be retained as the Chief Secretary for long if he misappropriated public fund and was involved in criminal activities, Nimaichand said.
He said that O Nabakishore was involved in the MDS scam of Rs 185 crore and an FIR has been already registered at Imphal police station in connection with the scam.
Ex-Chief Minister O Ibobi is also a co-accused in the case, he added.
Pointing out that Nabakishore's election affidavit says that his wife's income increased from 205000 in 2013-14 to over Rs 7 lakh in 2014-15, Nimaichand questioned how the former bureaucrat's wife's income rose by five lakhs in just one year.
He then claimed that BJP will win both the Lok Sabha seats of Manipur and NDA will retain power at the Centre.
BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesman Ch Bijoy and vice president Jotin Waikhom too spoke at the press meet.
