Imphal, October 29 2015:
Barely a day after the JAC constituted in connection with the death of Khupneilal Neihsiel and Robert Hesei Kipgen announced a 20-day economic blockade with effect from the midnight of November 3, black marketers have hiked petrol prices with many petrol pumps running out of petrol stock from around 12 pm today.
However, diesel was available at different petrol pumps throughout the day.
Although, many black marketeers were seen selling petrol at exorbitant price at different places, no Government authority took any action against them as usual.
A man who bought petrol from a black marketer said that it is unfortunate that most of the owners of petrol pumps have the habit of putting up the sign boards that read as 'Petrol Nil' soon after they get the news of economic blockade.
On the otherhand, people are always kept in dark regarding the stock positions of different petrol pumps, he said and added that the authority concerned must invalidate the license of the petrol pumps which remain shut or stop distribution of petrol despite having enough stock.
Petrol was sold between Rs 80 to Rs 100 in the black market today.
It may be mentioned that the Government had announced on several occasions that strict action would be taken against the black marketeers.
However, things have never changed and people are always left in the lurch with Government authorities remaining as silent spectators.
