Visitors express disappointment over gallery's condition inside Kangla

People visiting the Kangla fort has expressed disappointment over the lack of care and negligence of the gallery which was established inside Kangla, following the handing over of the sacred palace by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the State Government on November 20, 2004 and after Kangla was under the dominion of 17 Assam Rifles for a long time.
One of the visitors, while talking to The Sangai Express, conveyed that the sacred place for the people of the State has been under the grip of the British regime and eventually kept under the subjugation of the Assam Rifles in which the place has been made its Battalion for a long period of time.

The visitor then narrated that people were not able to go freely inside the place to offer praying to the gods and goddesses.
Notably, the people had revolted many a times against the Assam Rifles demanding Kangla to be handed to its people.
Then the people experienced a great deal of suffering under the dominion of 17 Assam Rifles where the case of Manorama also occurred which further infuriated the people.
Condemning the violence and inhumane acts carried out by Assam Rifles to the people, a number of women took up nude protest in front of the Kangla gate.
The issue spread like a wild fire across the country and to other countries which eventually pressured the State and the central Government to take up a concrete action.
An on November 20, 2004, in the presence of the then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, 17 Assam Rifles then Commandant handed over the key of Kangla to former CM Okram Ibobi, in a grand function.
Meanwhile, the gallery which is located inside Kangla is in an extremely poor condition as the Government has failed to pay any attention it.
The ply fencing of the gallery has been torn apart and damaged.
The visitor said that people who are visiting the place for sightseeing often visits the gallery and reminisce the moment when Kangla was given to the State Government.
But, now people feel unhappy and disappointed to see the condition of the gallery, which is unfortunate.
Although the State Government has taken up numerous renovation works to make the place one of the tourists destination in Manipur, the people feel disappointed as to why the Government has left out the gallery which has a strong connection to the event of November 20, the visitor remarked.
