CSOs caution over Sports varsity

Kangpokpi, December 28 2016: Civil society organizations of Sadar Hills today cautioned the State Government from making further plan to set up National Sports University at L Tangnaum village, commonly known as Haraothel village under Kangpokpi district, without consulting the village authority and CSOs Sadar Hills, our correspondent reports.

Reiterating their opposition, CSOs Sadar Hills asked the State Government as to why it is eager to construct the Sport varsity at L Tangnaum village despite strong oppositions from CSOs Sadar Hills and L Tangnaum Village Authority.

"Shun any program and plan related with the Sports Varsity at L Tangnaum land for the time being or till amicable solution is brought, for the sake of peace and harmony", CSOs Sadar Hills urged the State Government and the concerned department.

The Revenue Department along with a team of State Forces, visited the proposed site for the sports varsity at L Tangnaum recently and conveyed their doubtfulness to the State Government.

If the State goes forward with its plan to set up the sports varsity at the proposed site without consulting all the stake holders including L Tangnaum VA and CSOs Sadar Hills, or till an amicable solution is achieved, the consequence will be volatile, warned the CSOs Sadar Hills.

It also cautioned that extreme forms of agitation may be initiated in case the State Government remains adamant over the repeated opposition of CSOs Sadar Hills and L Tangnaum VA over the setting up of sports university at L Tangnaum village.

"We are not against any form of development for the State, but development at the cost of our land and without consulting us will not be tolerated", the CSOs said.
