Ngari Khullen farmers devastated by flash flood, landslides

Senapati, September 28 2017:
The incessant rain in the past few days brought massive destruction to many properties, houses and farms in the Senapati district .
The paddy fields which are located beside river banks have witnessed huge damage due to the overflowing of water from the river .
It has been a huge blow to the farmers of the district this year particular the Ngari Khullen villagers who are residing 84 km away from Senapati district HQ .
Around 40-50 families in the villages depend on farming for their livelihood and about 80 per cent of the paddy fields were destroyed beyond recovery .
The flood had not only swept the paddy fields bed but deposited heavy layers of gravels and dirts on the field bed .
More than 20 fishery ponds were filled by debris too .
The fields destroyed by the recent flash floor includes Matonla, Mariiva, Yengkhii, Tasala , Mongla and other small areas for cultivation .
The villagers of Ngari Khullen also appealed the authority concerned to inspect and take up necessary steps for the poor farmers residing in the remote areas.
