Imphal, August 28 2020:
The United People's Front (UPF) Manipur has observed its 22nd foundation day at its head office at Keishamthong Laishom Leirak, today.
UPF, founder president, Khomdram Ratan; president W Second; advisors, L Jadumani, Th Mangi, YK Dhiren Meetei; BM Yaima Shah and executive, district committee and local council members attended the programme, said a press release issued by UPF, Manipur.
At the event, Khomdram Ratan said that UPF, along with the people, has confronted challenges that posed a threat to the integrity of the State in the past and will continue to do so in future.
Speaking about the pandemic, Ratan said that many a State's natives might develop mental illness sooner or later as there is no sign of COVID transmission slowing down in the State.
He also contended that the strategy of the Government in tackling the COVID-19 seems to be failing as the disease had already claimed over 25 lives and infected over 5,000 people till date.
The fact that Manipur was a sovereign country for centuries was undermined when Leishemba Sanajaoba opted to join mainstream politics instead of upholding his position of being the titular king of the State, Ratan opined.
Meanwhile, W Second said that discriminating/stigmatising healthcare workers, journalists, police personnel and other frontline workers by section of population at this crucial time will only pave way for surrendering to the pandemic.
The UPF president also cautioned that to be signed final accord of the decades-old Naga peace talks should not go in favour of a particular community that could encourage social movements from different sections.
